We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day financial management and ensure that leadership has an accurate and timely understanding of the organisation’s financial position. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Finance Manager will oversee the accounts, cash flow, financial reporting, revenue controls, payables, payroll inputs, and client accounts. The successful candidate must be comfortable moving between financial oversight and the practical work required to keep the accounts accurate and up to date. This is a part-time, in-house, leadership role suited to an experienced finance professional who can independently manage the finance function within a growing organisation. Key Responsibilities Financial management and reporting Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date financial recordsPrepare monthly management reports, including profit and loss, cash flow, receivables, payables, and budget-versus-actual performanceMonitor Strong Start’s financial position and highlight risks, discrepancies, or emerging concerns to the Managing DirectorTrack income and expenditure across programmes and locationsSupport annual budgeting and maintain practical cash-flow forecastsProvide financial information to support management planning and decision-making Revenue and client accounts Oversee invoicing, payment allocation, receipts, customer balances, and collectionsEnsure that revenue is accurately recorded and reconciled across programmes and payment channelsReconcile registration, package, attendance, invoice, and payment informationMonitor outstanding balances and follow up consistently on overdue accountsInvestigate and resolve discrepancies in customer accountsRespond professionally to parent billing and payment queries by phone, WhatsApp, and email Payments, reconciliations, and controls Complete regular bank, M-Pesa, and other payment-channel reconciliationsReview supplier invoices, expenses, payment schedules, and supporting documentationPrepare payroll information and ensure staff-related payments are accurately recordedMaintain appropriate financial controls and organised supporting recordsEnsure finance processes and recurring reports are completed within agreed timelinesRecommend practical improvements to financial systems and processes Compliance and coordination Prepare accurate financial schedules and documentation for statutory filings, audits, and year-end reportingCoordinate with the company’s external accountant, auditor, and other financial service providersWork closely with programme, operations, and teaching teams to ensure that financial information is complete and accurateMaintain strict confidentiality when handling company, employee, and customer financial information Qualifications and Experience Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related fieldCPA qualification or progress toward a recognised professional accounting qualification is preferredAt least four years of relevant accounting or financial-management experienceExperience preparing management reports, budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and reconciliationsSound knowledge of bookkeeping, payroll, financial controls, and statutory requirementsStrong Excel or Google Sheets skillsExperience using accounting software; familiarity with Zoho Books or a similar system is an advantageExperience working in a growing SME, education business, social enterprise, or multi-location organisation is an advantage Skills and Attributes High integrity, discretion, and accountabilityAble to take ownership of an organisation’s accounts with limited supervisionStrong financial judgement, analytical ability, and attention to detailAble to identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and recommend solutionsHighly organised and consistent in meeting recurring deadlinesComfortable carrying out detailed accounting work as well as preparing management-level reportsAble to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleaguesStrong customer-service and communication skillsConfident handling sensitive payment conversations professionally and firmlyComfortable working in a growing and fast-paced organisationFluent in spoken and written English; Kiswahili proficiency is required Work Requirements This is an in-house role and is not suitable for someone seeking fully or predominantly remote work. The successful candidate must be available for a consistent part-time schedule across the working week to provide continuity, timely reporting, and regular coordination with management and programme teams. • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field • CPA qualification or progress toward a recognised professional accounting qualification is preferred • At least four years of relevant accounting or financial-management experience • Experience preparing management reports, budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and reconciliations • Sound knowledge of bookkeeping, payroll, financial controls, and statutory requirements • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills • Experience using accounting software; familiarity with Zoho Books or a similar system is an advantage • Experience working in a growing SME, education business, social enterprise, or multi-location organisation is an advantage • High integrity, discretion, and accountability • Able to take ownership of an organisation’s accounts with limited supervision • Strong financial judgement, analytical ability, and attention to detail • Able to identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and recommend solutions • Highly organised and consistent in meeting recurring deadlines • Comfortable carrying out detailed accounting work as well as preparing management-level reports • Able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
