Job Description
The World Health Organization (WHO) offers a competitive and impactful internship programme for students and recent graduates interested in public health, global health governance, administration, communications, and international development. Interns gain hands-on experience within WHO’s technical and administrative units, contributing directly to global health priorities. The programme provides structured learning and capacity-building opportunities, strengthening WHO programmes through specialized academic contributions. Interns are exposed to international health systems, global stakeholders, and UN operations, supporting WHO’s mission to advance health equity and strengthen health systems worldwide. Interns work full-time for 6–24 weeks, participating in projects aligned with their academic background and WHO’s strategic priorities. The role involves collaborating with international teams, attending meetings, and producing deliverables under the guidance of WHO staff. This is not a staff position, and interns do not represent WHO officially.
Requirements
Minimum 20 years old at the time of application; enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate programme in public health, medicine, social sciences, management, administration, communications, or external relations; OR have completed a degree within the last 18 months; must have completed at least 3 years of full-time university studies; fluency in at least one working language of the WHO office of assignment; must hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State; cannot be closely related to a WHO staff member (parent, sibling, child); must not have previously participated in the WHO Internship Programme; must provide proof of enrolment or recent graduation; submit a Declaration of Interest (conflict-of-interest disclosure); provide a medical certificate of fitness; must have medical and accident insurance during the internship.
