Trace Metals Laboratory Officer

The Trace Metals Laboratory Officer at Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) is responsible for conducting tests on metal samples to determine their composition and properties. The role involves interpreting test results, considering measurement uncertainties, and generating accurate reports according to relevant standards and requirements. The officer will maintain technical records, participate in the development and monitoring of the Management System Documents, and ensure the validity of test results through method validation and evaluation of measurement uncertainty. Additionally, the officer will conduct internal laboratory audits, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions for identified nonconformities. Responsibilities also include maintaining assigned laboratory equipment following manufacturer instructions or applicable work instructions to ensure optimal performance and compliance with quality standards.

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field; Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in trace metals analysis; Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as ICP-MS, AAS, or similar instrumentation; Strong understanding of quality management systems and laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025); Ability to interpret and report test results accurately; Experience in method validation and measurement uncertainty evaluation; Knowledge of data management and technical record-keeping; Familiarity with internal auditing and corrective action processes; Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills; Proficiency in written and spoken English and/or French; Rwanda National Accreditation Board (RNAB) certification or willingness to obtain it is an added advantage.
