WASH Specialist, P-3, FT, Port Sudan, Sudan - ESAR
Job Description
The WASH Specialist will play a critical role in leading and managing UNICEF's Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programmes in Port Sudan, Sudan. Primary responsibilities include programme development and planning, ensuring the effective management and delivery of WASH results, and providing technical and operational support for programme implementation. The role involves humanitarian WASH preparedness and response, networking and partnership building with government, NGOs, and community stakeholders, and driving innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the WASH sector. The Specialist will also monitor progress, analyze data, and manage budgets to ensure accountability and impact. This position requires close collaboration with UNICEF teams, local authorities, and communities to address the WASH needs of children and vulnerable populations, particularly in fragile and humanitarian contexts.
Requirements
An advanced university degree in engineering, environmental science, water management, public health, social sciences, sanitary engineering, or another relevant technical field is required; minimum of five years of professional experience in planning, implementation, and management of WASH programmes in developing countries, including donor-funded programmes; at least one year of field experience in a developing country is required; one year of deployment in a developing country is required; fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an advantage; skills in emergency coordination, humanitarian response, partnership management, data analysis, and budgeting are required; experience in climate-resilient WASH programming and donor-funded programme management is considered an advantage; relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts is preferred.
