Project Accountant

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) with a dotted line to the Project Director, the Project Accountant oversees all financial aspects of a major construction project, ensuring integrity, compliance, and accountability throughout the lifecycle. The role involves working closely with the CFO, Project Director, and Project Commercial Manager to provide accurate financial reporting, budget control, and risk management for timely and on-budget project delivery. Responsibilities include establishing cost baselines, implementing budget control, monitoring cash flow and funding disbursements, tracking expenditures against budgets, ensuring tax compliance, maintaining movable asset registers, preparing financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, collaborating with procurement on financial due diligence, identifying financial risks, and supporting project close-out activities such as final financial reports and asset capitalization. The role requires liaising with internal departments, external consultants, contractors, and donors while providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification; Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Project Management (an added advantage); Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in project accounting; Proven experience in managing finances for large-scale construction or infrastructure projects; Experience with ERP/FIS systems; Knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and statutory requirements; Strong analytical and communication skills; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
