Officer, Safety & Risk Control

Enforce safety protocols across all contractor-operated areas and conduct compliance audits to ensure adherence to safety standards. Facilitate and guide teams and contractors in performing risk assessments, prevention measures, and writing flash reports. Provide safety and security for all IME employees and contractors to enable uninterrupted operations. Supervise contractors and service providers, ensuring daily oversight of their operations and employees on job sites. Verify that all contractors, their employees, and equipment comply with safety standards and possess valid permits to perform work. Conduct on-site inspections, safety meetings, and surprise visits to identify hazards, unsafe behaviors, and ensure corrective actions are taken. Perform safety audits, incident investigations, and prepare detailed reports to classify impacts and develop remedial actions. Act as the primary point of contact for all departments regarding security and risk control, including reporting criminal activity, theft, and requesting immediate security assistance. Develop proactive mitigation solutions to address anticipated or recurring security risks and assist in curbing future criminal activity.

Certificate in any of the SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) disciplines or equivalent; Congolese Driver’s License with an Approved Driver Training Certificate; 3+ years of relevant experience in mining/exploration/construction/engineering safety environments; 5+ years of relevant security or military experience in active security management roles within mining or processing plants (with 2+ years in a supervisory role); Fluency in French, Swahili, and English (or at least two of the three); In-depth knowledge of relevant Safety legislation; Basic understanding of mining, construction, engineering, and process operations; Knowledge of work-related hazards and associated risks; Understanding of human behavior and cultural differences; Practical risk management skills; Accident and incident investigation experience; Computer literacy (MS Office) and familiarity with safety computer systems; Strong communication skills; Ability to conduct on-site inspections and safety meetings; Experience with permit management and legal document validation; Proficiency in conducting audits and identifying system failures; Experience with Daily Safe Task Instructions (DSTI) and incident reporting; Ability to develop and implement remedial actions; Experience in logistical management and shift supervision; Skills in data analysis and trend interpretation for decision-making.
