Internship Recruitment: AI & Digital Innovation

Job Description

This internship position at UNICEF focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Innovation, supporting initiatives that leverage technology to address pressing challenges facing children and adolescents in The Gambia. The intern will contribute to projects involving data analysis, digital innovation, automation, and knowledge management, with a focus on responsible AI principles including privacy, data protection, transparency, inclusion, fairness, and ethical use of technology. The role involves research, analytical tasks, writing documentation, and presenting findings to support UNICEF's mandate of promoting and protecting children's rights. The intern will work collaboratively with teams in The Gambia and globally, gaining exposure to UNICEF's work in fragile settings and humanitarian contexts. This is a 6-month internship based in Banjul, The Gambia.

Requirements

Education: Enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, Digital Transformation, Development Studies, or another relevant field; Skills: Demonstrate interest in Artificial Intelligence, emerging technologies, digital innovation, data analysis, automation, knowledge management, or technology for development; Basic familiarity with digital tools such as Microsoft 365 applications, online collaboration platforms, data management tools, or AI-enabled productivity tools; Willingness to develop research, analytical, writing, documentation, and presentation skills with attention to detail and openness to feedback; Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required; Desirables: Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts; Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is considered an asset; Prior exposure to data analysis, dashboards, coding, automation, prompt development, research, digital learning, or innovation projects is considered an asset.
