Food Microbiology Officer

The Food Microbiology Officer at Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) is responsible for ensuring the integrity and safety of food products through rigorous microbiological testing and analysis. Key duties include receiving and properly storing samples, conducting tests, preparing detailed reports, and managing reference cultures. The role involves preparing media and reagents, performing technical evaluations of received culture media, and maintaining quality performance records for culture media. Additionally, the officer will implement and participate in the review of the Microbiology laboratory quality system, monitor assigned equipment, and retain records. The position also requires initiating updates on new technologies to improve result quality and minimize testing duration, as well as participating in the standardization of laboratory procedures. The officer will report to the laboratory supervisor and contribute to the overall efficiency and compliance of the laboratory operations.

Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field; 3+ years of experience in food microbiology or a related laboratory setting; knowledge of microbiological testing techniques and quality control systems; experience in preparing media, reagents, and reference cultures; familiarity with laboratory equipment maintenance and record-keeping; ability to interpret and report test results accurately; strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
