Associate Director, Global Markets Team
Job Description
The Associate Director will lead the Global Markets Team (GMT) in developing and implementing CHAI’s market-shaping strategy for treatment commodities critical for managing HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, and Assistive Technology markets. Primary responsibilities include leading global supply-side strategies for essential health commodities, identifying and developing relationships with suppliers in Africa to advance regional manufacturing, and supporting CHAI Rwanda’s collaboration with Rwanda Medical Supply. The role requires building and maintaining trust-based relationships with internal teams and suppliers, working closely with GMT members in Africa and country teams to support Ministries of Health in procurement processes, and providing market insights to navigate regulatory and procurement challenges. The Associate Director will report to the Senior Director, GMT (Infectious Diseases, Nutrition, Vector-Borne Disease) and is expected to travel frequently (up to 30-40%) for supplier and partner meetings, as well as to CHAI program countries. The role demands strong problem-solving abilities, entrepreneurial initiative, and a commitment to excellence, with a focus on driving sustainable impact through high-quality health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Economics, Public Health, Business, or a related field; Minimum of 8+ years (with an advanced degree) or 10+ years (with a Bachelor’s degree) of professional experience in demanding, results-oriented environments across the public and/or private sectors; Demonstrated ability in managing large projects, project design, and teams; Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure situations and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to work independently in a multicultural environment; Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build professional relationships; High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); Excellent analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and communication skills, both written and verbal; Fluency in English, both written and verbal; Willingness to travel frequently; Experience in negotiations and demonstrated success in commercial negotiations; Experience living and working in a low-resourced setting; Advanced degree in Business, Economics, Public Health, or related disciplines (Master’s degree preferred); Strong problem-solving ability and stakeholder management skills; Ability to draft proposals and collaborative documents while aligning with CHAI’s ideals and goals.
