Senior Manager, Nature Markets Project Development

Job Description

This role involves leading the development and implementation of a portfolio of nature market projects across Africa, ensuring alignment with workplans, budgets, timelines, and project objectives. The Senior Manager will spearhead project scoping, technical assessments, due diligence, and the selection/application of nature market mechanisms. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing technical studies, project documentation, and deliverables, as well as applying safeguards, governance frameworks, and benefit-sharing approaches throughout project development and implementation. The position requires managing project workplans, budgets, risks, and reporting requirements, while coordinating with technical consultants and service providers. Field visits will be conducted to monitor progress, assess challenges, and provide technical input. The role also involves preparing updates and progress reports for stakeholders, promoting knowledge sharing, and contributing to the improvement of project management systems and operational processes across the Nature Markets portfolio. Normal office environment with frequent travel (~30%) within Africa, often to remote locations with rustic conditions. Flexibility in work schedule is required to accommodate collaboration across multiple time zones.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in natural resource management, ecology, environmental science, conservation biology, forestry, rangeland management, or a related field; Five or more years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity conservation, conservation finance, natural capital, payments for ecosystem services (PES), biodiversity credits, or related fields, including experience developing or implementing nature market projects; Demonstrated experience supporting the technical development and implementation of nature market, carbon, or conservation finance projects, including project scoping, technical due diligence, project design, technical studies, and project documentation; Experience managing project workplans, budgets, risks, and reporting requirements; Ability to conduct field visits and provide technical input in remote locations; Strong collaboration skills to work with global, regional, and country teams across multiple time zones.
