Country Director - Somalia

The Country Director (CD) is responsible for fulfilling CARE International’s approved 'Performance Standards of Country Offices.' They oversee the development, funding, and implementation of the Country Office (CO) program portfolio, ensuring alignment with CARE’s global strategy and mission. The CD is accountable for emergency preparedness and management, including emergency programming and operations. They establish and sustain productive relationships with government officials, donors, and strategic partners, leading the CO’s fundraising strategy to ensure financial viability. The role includes competent operational and risk management, ensuring the well-being and safety of CARE staff and proper stewardship of resources. The CD models and promotes CARE’s core values—Transformation, Integrity, Diversity, Excellence, and Equality—while fostering innovation, holistic planning, and effective team building. They encourage ongoing staff development and drive the teams toward CARE’s 2030 vision, including promoting gender equality and diversity in programming and among CO staff.

6-8 years in senior management position in the development field; demonstrated experience in leading strategic and operational planning; extensive conceptual skills including strategic analysis; demonstrated management skills in a complex international setting; financial management experience including managing complex budgets, following up on audit recommendations, and ensuring donor compliance and reporting; ability to establish a learning culture and facilitate knowledge sharing; experience in program impact and relevance, resource mobilization, human resources management, and external relations; knowledge of CARE’s core values and commitment to gender equality and diversity.
