Civil Engineer (Projects Engineer) - RICA Seed Center

The Civil Engineer (Projects Engineer) serves as the technical guardian of the RICA Seed Center’s physical infrastructure in Bugesera, Rwanda. This role involves providing rigorous oversight of civil engineering design and construction works, ensuring all infrastructure meets structural, safety, and durability standards for long-term operations. Key responsibilities include reviewing and validating civil engineering designs, drawings, and structural detailing for roads, drainage, and external infrastructure; conducting site inspections and progress checks; monitoring contractor performance; addressing construction challenges; and providing technical guidance and on-site training to contractor technicians. The role also involves coordinating with the Safety Officer to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, stopping unsafe work, and verifying proper sequencing of works. Additionally, the Civil Engineer shares technical lessons learned and best practices with the team to strengthen internal capacity and improve project delivery.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in civil engineering design and construction supervision; proficiency in structural design, detailing, and modeling software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ETABS, ProtaStructure, CYPE); advanced knowledge of construction principles, building codes, and regulations; understanding of occupational health and safety regulations; fluency in spoken and written Kinyarwanda and English (French is an added advantage); experience in providing technical guidance and on-site training to contractor technicians.
