Deputy Financial Controller

Job Description

Bidco Uganda is seeking a Deputy Financial Controller to oversee financial reporting, tax compliance, and payroll reviews at their Jinja facility. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing management reports and identifying cost-saving opportunities for the group. Responsibilities include preparing executive summary reports that detail segment performance, profitability per SKU/segment, comparisons between target versus actual figures, and production reports. The role involves coordinating with stakeholders during report preparation to ensure timelines and deadlines are met. Additionally, the Deputy Financial Controller will review tax computations (VAT, VAT on imported services, WHT, PAYE, NSSF, and income tax), ensure compliance with tax-related acts, and review inventory, customer, GRIR, and vendor aging reports. The role requires reviewing workflows in the SAP system, managing payroll tasks such as attendance lists, basic salaries, overtime, arrears, incentive computations, LSA, tax computations (LST, PAYE, NSSF), union computations, deductions of advance and Sacco contributions, and preparing management reports including trial balance, statement of comprehensive performance, and statement of financial position. The position also involves preparing consolidated management reports for the Group of Companies in Uganda, participating in cost-saving initiatives, leading project reviews using financial metrics like payback period, IRR, and ARR, identifying internal control gaps, coaching team members, and liaising with external and internal auditors. The role reports to the Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer and may involve additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA); Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, accounting, or auditing; Strong knowledge of tax compliance (VAT, WHT, PAYE, NSSF, income tax); Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems; Experience in preparing management reports and financial statements; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities; Experience in cost-saving initiatives and financial forecasting; Knowledge of Ugandan accounting standards and regulatory requirements; Leadership and team mentoring experience.
