Job Description
Under the overall supervision of the Country Director and direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director, the incumbent will lead and manage WFP South Sudan’s Field Office to ensure effective and efficient management of human and financial resources and the delivery of WFP programme activities. The role emphasizes building and maintaining relationships with local authorities, UN agencies, and other partners to reinforce WFP’s visibility. Key responsibilities include managing Field Office operations to ensure timely deployment of food assistance and other programmes, contributing to the development of country strategies and policies, supporting corporate initiatives, and ensuring transparent and efficient people management. The position also requires accountability for security standards, collaboration with partners, monitoring and evaluation activities, and fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace. The role operates in a complex humanitarian context characterized by severe access constraints and insecurity, requiring robust leadership and operational expertise.
Requirements
Advanced University degree (Master’s or higher) in Economics, International Development, Social Sciences, or related field; OR relevant First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses. For candidates holding a master’s degree, a minimum of seven (7) years of postgraduate international professional experience in humanitarian operation leadership in complex emergencies and broader programme operations, particularly in food assistance support is required. For candidates holding a bachelor’s degree, at least nine (9) years of the above-mentioned experience is required. Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing a sub-office, small country office, field/area office, or a component of a country office programme portfolio in contexts characterized by severe access constraints and insecurity. Track record of building cohesive, high-performing teams; performance management, coaching, and staff development. Progressive experience managing field operations for food assistance or cash-based transfer programmes in humanitarian or development contexts. Experienced in planning, launching, and managing assistance operations end-to-end (needs assessment, targeting, distribution, post-distribution monitoring). Experienced in troubleshooting operational constraints (access, logistics, market volatility, seasonal shocks, etc.). Substantial experience in complex field operations, in a hardship duty station or emergency is essential.
