Job Description
The Manager HSES (Health, Safety, Environment, and Security) is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation and enforcement of HSES policies and procedures across all projects. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of HSES concepts, theories, and principles to improve effectiveness and provide guidance for the HSES discipline. The Manager HSES will impact the level of service and the HSES team’s ability to meet quality and timeliness objectives by maintaining a complete understanding of current HSES policies, interpreting regulatory requirements, and ensuring compliance. Key responsibilities include ensuring proper manning levels for HSES activities, identifying and conducting HSES training, producing and implementing local and project-specific HSES procedures, and ensuring all HSES functional personnel perform as required. The role involves facilitating HAZID’s and other risk reviews, preparing HSES audit plans and conducting audits, preparing and maintaining HSES Activity Plans, and preparing HSES performance reports for submission to the HSES Functional Lead. Additionally, the Manager HSES will set annual targets, develop improvement plans, lead or participate in incident investigations, provide HSES input into look-ahead plans and reports, and contribute to Management of Change and Lessons Learned processes. The role also includes attending and providing input to forums such as kick-off meetings, constructability reviews, and readiness reviews, and ensuring employees understand their responsibility to implement McDermott policies and procedures effectively.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environment, or a related field; minimum of 10 years of progressive HSES experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical, or energy sector; strong knowledge of HSES regulations and standards; experience in developing and implementing HSES management systems; proficiency in risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP); excellent leadership and communication skills; ability to work in multicultural and high-risk environments; certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent are highly desirable; experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis; familiarity with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001) is a plus.
