Theatre Nurse NGO Job

The Theatre Nurse will promote and maintain high standards of professional nursing care by delivering quality perioperative services, with a strong focus on surgical patient care. Primary duties include assessing patient status, reviewing medical records, and verifying patient identity and surgical site. The role requires maintaining a sterile and safe operating environment, participating in sterilization and packaging of theatre consumables, and assisting in patient flow management within the theatre department. The Theatre Nurse will act as a scrub nurse during surgical procedures, assist in patient positioning, transfer, and post-operative recovery, and monitor vital signs before, during, and after surgery. Additional responsibilities include ensuring accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts, administering prescribed medications and fluids, and assisting anesthetists during induction and procedures. The role also involves documenting intraoperative events, managing surgical supplies, and ensuring proper use and maintenance of theatre equipment. The Theatre Nurse will provide care for newborns during cesarean sections and perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a recognized institution; Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing (added advantage); Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in perioperative nursing; Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (added advantage); Experience in laparoscopy (added advantage); Strong passion for Matibabu Foundation’s mission and values; Good understanding of the local and regional healthcare context; Results-oriented, proactive, and adaptable; Strong communication and teamwork skills.
