Quality Officer
Job Description
Uganda Baati Limited (UBL) is seeking a competent and experienced Quality Officer to be based in Kampala. The role is responsible for ensuring all materials and products meet stringent quality standards throughout the production process. The Quality Officer will conduct inspections of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods in accordance with approved procedures and specifications. They will enforce compliance with internal quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements, while performing routine internal standardization and verification of quality control equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. The officer will report any equipment malfunctions and coordinate timely maintenance or calibration, identify non-conforming materials during production, and ensure proper segregation and classification. They will liaise closely with Production teams to implement corrective actions promptly, maintain records of non-conformances, and support root cause analysis where required. Additionally, the Quality Officer will monitor handling practices of finished goods to identify risks that may lead to product damage, enforce adherence to proper handling, storage, and stacking procedures, and inspect trucks, containers, and other transport vessels prior to loading to ensure they meet cleanliness and safety standards. The role requires maintaining high standards of housekeeping and adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures at all times. The Quality Officer will provide timely and accurate feedback to Production and relevant stakeholders on quality inspection results, prepare and maintain inspection reports, test records, and quality documentation, and participate in quality meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field; Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality assurance or control roles; Strong knowledge of quality standards and regulatory requirements; Experience with quality control equipment and calibration processes; Ability to identify non-conforming materials and implement corrective actions; Excellent communication and teamwork skills; Proficiency in maintaining detailed records and reports; Familiarity with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies; Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
