Protection Coordinator-Internal Only

The Protection Coordinator leads the IRC’s efforts to create and manage a robust protection team capable of meeting the safety and protection needs of people affected by conflict, displacement, and reducing risks. This role focuses on three key protection streams: Child Protection (CP), Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE), and Protection & Rule of Law (PRoL). The position holder is accountable for the strategic and quality implementation of the Safety Outcome Strategy in Nigeria, ensuring programming aligns with IRC’s global standards and local context. Key responsibilities include providing strategic direction and technical support to protection programming, developing donor proposals, managing budgets, leading assessments and research, and ensuring program quality and compliance. The role requires strong leadership, team management, and business development skills to build capacity and foster high-performing teams in a complex, multicultural environment. The Protection Coordinator will also represent IRC in national coordination forums, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure protection information is used for advocacy and planning.

Master’s Degree in social work, human rights, international law, social science, or related field; 5-7 years’ experience implementing two of the three protection streams: Protection Rule of Law, Child Protection, or Women’s Protection and Empowerment in an emergency or complex emergency context; applied experience in case management; strong team leadership and management skills; business development skills for donor proposals; program and budget management skills; strong written and oral communication skills; fluent in spoken and written English; strong computer skills (Windows MS Office programs, email programs, etc.); adherence to IRC Way - Standards for Professional Conduct and Safeguarding policies.
