Security Associate

Job Description

Assists the National Security Officer/Field Security Officer in collecting, updating, and communicating information regarding the security situation in the area of responsibility (AOR). Liaises and coordinates with host government security organizations, including national and local authorities, military, and police officers, as well as non-governmental organizations in the AOR. Helps assess the security situation at the duty station and ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information for proper analysis. Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies and UNDSS. Provides support in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan and assists in maintaining the security risk management (SRM) document. Assists in reporting security incidents affecting UN/WFP staff, offices, and assets, and drafts security reports such as the Security Incident Report and other Security Assessments. Supports organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness, providing security orientation to newly assigned staff members. Conducts security briefings as required. Establishes and maintains a warden system, keeping updated information related to UN/WFP offices and residences. Maintains liaison with commercial companies used for UN security at offices and residences to facilitate effective use of the guard force. Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents and a database on contact details of host country security authorities.

Requirements

Completion of secondary school education OR University degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in Risk Management, Criminology, Military Science, OR a related field is highly preferred; At least six (6) years of experience with a secondary school certificate OR University degree (Diploma/Bachelor’s) with a minimum of two (2) or more years of experience in security, with proven capability in leading field teams, writing detailed security briefs, and handling emergency scenarios; Fluency (level C) in English and Somali language; Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable; Experience in computer applications (MS Office, internet); Experience in preparing Security Assessments/Reports; Experience in the military or police background is highly desirable; Valid and clean driving license, and experience in driving armored vehicles is an advantage; This position is open for qualified Somali national candidates only; Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
