Field Education Officer

The Field Education Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing Literacy and Adult Basic Education (LABE)'s mission to promote literacy and adult basic education across Uganda. Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, and monitoring community-based literacy programs, conducting needs assessments in target communities, and developing tailored educational materials for adult learners. The officer will collaborate with local stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders, to identify educational gaps and facilitate access to learning opportunities. Key deliverables include organizing and facilitating adult literacy classes, training community educators, and ensuring program quality through regular evaluations. The role requires extensive fieldwork, often in rural and underserved areas, and involves reporting progress to LABE's management team. Unique aspects of this position include working closely with marginalized groups, such as women and out-of-school youth, to empower them through education.

Bachelor's degree in Education, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field; minimum of 3 years of experience in adult education, community development, or a closely related field; demonstrated experience in designing and implementing literacy programs; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in diverse cultural settings; proficiency in local languages (e.g., Luganda, Swahili, or other regional languages) is highly desirable; experience with participatory approaches in education; familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks; willingness to travel frequently to rural areas; commitment to LABE's mission of promoting literacy and adult education.
