Migrant Protection Officer

The Migrant Protection Officer will support the development and implementation of migrant protection program portfolios in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), including Return, Readmission and Reintegration (RRR) and Counter Trafficking in Persons. The role involves conducting migrant protection assessments to identify risk mitigation measures, focusing on operational conditions, access to essential services (e.g., shelter, legal identity), and protection risks for vulnerable groups. The officer will provide technical guidance to national staff, ensure adherence to IOM policies, and contribute to protection information management in line with IOM and inter-agency standards. Responsibilities include developing programmatic strategies, risk planning, and mitigation, as well as engaging with national authorities and protection actors in countries of origin and destination. The officer will also monitor implementation of protection activities, measure progress against objectives, and represent the program in technical meetings and forums with donors, partners, and stakeholders. Collaboration with relevant staff, units, and programs is essential to ensure smooth operations and continuous access to services for migrants. The role requires participation in coordination mechanisms and task forces at local, regional, and global levels.

Master’s degree in social sciences, International Relations/Affairs, Research, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; Five years of relevant professional experience; OR University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience; Experience working with migrants and civil society; Proven experience in managing protection programming; Strong knowledge of IOM and inter-agency protection standards; Fluency in English and French; Mobility as required for internationally recruited professional staff.
