Research Associate – Digital Agriculture NGO Job

The Research Associate will support critical data operations in digital agriculture, focusing on the ingestion, cleaning, and management of weather, soil, and agricultural datasets. This role involves assisting in the analysis of climate data such as rainfall, temperature, and forecasts to derive actionable insights for agricultural decision-making. The Associate will contribute to the development and maintenance of platforms like AgDataHub, which serve as centralized repositories for agricultural data. Additionally, the role includes benchmarking and validating forecast products to ensure accuracy and reliability. The position requires developing scripts and workflows using Python for data processing and analysis, as well as liaising with national partners such as meteorological agencies and research institutions to facilitate data sharing and collaboration. The work environment is dynamic, with opportunities to work on cutting-edge technologies in geospatial data and remote sensing, particularly in the context of climate-smart agriculture.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, AI/ML, Data Science, or a closely related field; minimum of two years of relevant experience; proficiency in Python; proficiency with Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative development; experience with Linux/Unix environments and command-line tools; experience applying deep learning (e.g., CNNs) to geospatial or remote sensing data; familiarity with cloud computing environments (AWS) and distributed data systems (e.g., Apache Druid); strong analytical and written communication skills in English; knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
