Plant Molecular Biology Scientist

Plan and conduct genetic transformation, gene editing, and molecular characterization activities to support agricultural biotechnology initiatives. Develop, optimize, and implement laboratory protocols for molecular analysis and biotechnology applications. Perform and interpret molecular assays including PCR, qPCR, and other advanced techniques to analyze plant genetic material. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and execute research projects focused on crop improvement and disease resistance. Ensure compliance with biosafety regulations and ethical standards in all laboratory operations. Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and data analysis for reporting and publication purposes.

PhD in Plant Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field; OR Master's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience; Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in plant molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, gene cloning, and genetic transformation; Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and software for sequence analysis; Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and molecular marker development; Strong background in plant tissue culture and biotechnology applications; Knowledge of biosafety regulations and laboratory safety protocols; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work independently and in team settings; Fluency in English (Kinyarwanda is an added advantage).
