Job Description
The Responsible Mining Project Lead will oversee the implementation of the CAT Gold Project in Chunya District, Tanzania. The role involves direct collaboration with artisanal and small-scale miners, mining cooperatives, government authorities, and industry partners to strengthen responsible mining practices and establish a sustainable, mercury-free gold supply chain. Key responsibilities include leading project implementation, engaging with mining communities, supporting the development of formal and responsible gold supply chains, promoting mercury-free mining practices, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. The position also involves driving field implementation activities, contributing to long-term project sustainability, and promoting improved livelihoods within artisanal mining communities. The role aims to develop a scalable responsible mining model for Tanzania and the wider region, aligning with internationally recognized standards.
Requirements
Strong knowledge of Tanzania’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sector; Good understanding of Tanzania’s mining regulatory framework; Experience working with miners, mining cooperatives, government institutions, or the mining industry; Knowledge of internationally recognized responsible mining standards; Proven ability to lead project implementation in challenging environments; Strong stakeholder engagement and coordination skills; Commitment to promoting mercury-free mining practices; Experience in developing sustainable supply chains; Familiarity with Tanzania’s Chunya District is an advantage.
