Project Manager (Conserving terrestrial and marine biodiversity and restoring ecosystem services in globally relevant and vulnerable sites in Somalia)

Job Description

The Project Manager will lead the overall planning, coordination, and implementation of the Protected Areas Project in Somalia, ensuring timely, high-quality, and results-oriented delivery in line with the Project Document, national priorities, and UNDP/GEF frameworks. This role involves coordinating actions with relevant ministries, local authorities, and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of project activities, providing technical guidance and support to project staff and consultants, and maintaining quality assurance of deliverables while ensuring compliance with UNDP operational policies and procedures. The position also oversees financial planning, execution, and reporting, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with approved budgets, and prepares regular financial and narrative reports for internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the Project Manager will lead the implementation of the project monitoring and evaluation framework, prepare high-quality progress reports, and support independent evaluations and audits as required. The role promotes knowledge management by documenting lessons learned, ensures implementation of environmental and social safeguards, facilitates inclusive stakeholder participation, and integrates learning into adaptive project management.

Requirements

Advanced university degree (master´s degree or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Biodiversity, Natural Resource Management, or related field is required; OR a first-level university degree (bachelor´s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 years (with a Master's degree) or 7 years (with a Bachelor's degree) of experience managing large-scale environmental or conservation projects is required. Proven experience in leadership, team management, and donor relations; experience with UNDP/GEF procedures; fluency in English and Somali is required.
