HSSE Manager
Job Description
Asili Agriculture is seeking an HSSE Manager to oversee health, safety, social, and environmental compliance across its operations. This role ensures the company meets regulatory requirements, implements international best practices, and engages stakeholders effectively. The successful candidate will drive a proactive safety culture while managing community impacts and environmental sustainability. Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of OHS policies and systems, conducting risk assessments, enforcing preventive controls, and overseeing incident investigations. The role also involves designing and implementing a robust health and safety training framework, conducting training needs analysis for staff and line managers, and leading HSE inductions and toolbox talks. Additionally, the HSSE Manager will ensure full compliance with Uganda OSH regulations and NEMA requirements, lead audits and inspections, prepare statutory HSSE reports, and maintain accurate compliance records. The position requires building strong relationships with local communities and stakeholders, establishing grievance mechanisms, supporting Livelihood Restoration Programs, and providing HSSE expertise across all departments. The role also involves championing the integration of International Finance Corporation Environmental & Social (E&S) standards into business processes and overseeing internal audit programs to ensure sustained compliance with IFC and ESG requirements.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety Management, or a related field; Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in HSSE roles within agricultural or industrial sectors; Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent; Strong knowledge of Uganda OSH regulations and NEMA requirements; Experience in conducting Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs); Proven ability to develop and implement HSSE policies and training programs; Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills; Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and emergency preparedness; Ability to integrate IFC Environmental & Social standards into business processes.
