GIS Officer

The GIS Officer is responsible for providing Geographical Information System services to the organization by managing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data using GIS software and tools. The role involves guiding strategic and management decisions through data-driven insights derived from geographic and spatial information. Key responsibilities include resolving spatial queries and problems as they arise, analyzing GIS data to inform decision-making, and assisting in outlining and demonstrating the benefits of GIS to user departments. The officer will provide training and technical support to network auditors, compile and process geospatial data from various sources such as satellite imagery, maps, and government records, and maintain and update GIS databases. Additionally, the role requires creating detailed and accurate maps and interactive visualizations to represent data, using GIS tools to overlay different types of data (e.g., topography, population, land use) for specific purposes, and ensuring a well-maintained filing system for GIS data and records. Comprehensive records of completed administrative and clerical activities must also be maintained.

Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Geography, Surveying, Information Technology, or a related field; Minimum of 2 years of experience in GIS applications and spatial data analysis; Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Ability to compile, process, and organize geospatial data from multiple sources; Experience in creating detailed maps and interactive visualizations; Knowledge of database management and maintenance; Excellent communication and training skills for technical support and user department liaison; Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
