Responsible Mining Project Lead
Job Description
The Responsible Mining Project Lead will oversee the development and implementation of responsible mining initiatives in the Chunya District, Mbeya Region. This role involves designing and executing projects that promote sustainable and ethical mining practices, ensuring compliance with environmental and social governance standards. The lead will collaborate with local mining communities, government agencies, and international partners to foster transparency, improve safety protocols, and enhance economic benefits for artisanal and small-scale miners. Key responsibilities include project planning, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes, and reporting progress to donors and partners. The role requires a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility in the mining sector.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or a related field; Minimum of 7 years of experience in mining, project management, or a related field; Proven experience in responsible mining practices, sustainability initiatives, or community development projects; Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills; Ability to work in remote and challenging environments; Fluency in English; Knowledge of Swahili is an added advantage; Experience with monitoring and evaluation frameworks; Familiarity with Tanzanian mining regulations and international standards (e.g., OECD, EITI); Willingness to travel frequently within the Chunya District and Mbeya Region.
