Senior Science Officer - Legal

The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) is seeking a highly qualified Senior Science Officer specializing in Legal Affairs to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance on matters related to science, technology, and innovation policies, regulations, and compliance. Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and interpreting legal documents such as contracts, agreements, and policy frameworks; ensuring adherence to national and international legal standards; and representing UNCST in legal consultations and negotiations with stakeholders. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate legal considerations into scientific and technological initiatives, as well as monitoring and reporting on legal risks and compliance issues. Additionally, the officer will participate in capacity-building activities to enhance legal literacy within the organization and among stakeholders.

Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution; Master's degree in Law or a related field is an added advantage; Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in legal practice, preferably in public sector or regulatory environments; Strong knowledge of Ugandan legal frameworks, including the Constitution, National Science and Technology Act, and international treaties; Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills; Proficiency in legal research tools and databases; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and advisory roles; Familiarity with science, technology, and innovation ecosystems is desirable.
