Job Description
As a Social Policy Specialist focusing on Social Protection Systems, you will serve as an advocate for every child by contributing to UNICEF's mission to support child health, nutrition, water and sanitation, quality education, and protection from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. Your primary responsibilities will include strengthening social protection systems through policy analysis, programme design, and operational support in international development settings. You will be responsible for providing advisory support to governments and partners on social protection policies, drafting policy documents, and conducting financing analysis to enhance system efficiency and coverage. The role involves working in multicultural and multi-ethnic environments, requiring strong interpersonal and strategic communication skills to influence stakeholders across various sectors. You will also document and analyze public policy work, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic priorities and the needs of vulnerable populations.
Requirements
Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Public Policy, Labor and Social Protection, or International Relations; 8 years of relevant work experience in Social Protection, international development, or strengthening social protection systems; experience in written analysis and documentation of public policy; experience managing and/or providing advisory support for strengthening social protection systems (including policy, programme design, and operations) in international development settings; experience working in a developing country; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and strategic communication skills; ability to influence others in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment; strong analytical skills; proficiency in English is required. Assets: Experience in social protection operational programme design, policy drafting, system strengthening, financing analysis, policy advocacy, links to other sectors, capacity building, relevant experience in a United Nations system agency or organization; knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language; relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts.
