Protection Officer (Case Management Team Leader)

Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, the Senior Protection Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the Migrant Protection Officer, this role supports the implementation and quality of individual protection assistance and case management activities. The Protection Officer (Case Management Team Leader) will provide technical guidance to case management staff, ensure quality case management services for vulnerable migrants, and contribute to protection mainstreaming across programme activities. Key responsibilities include supporting the timely identification, assessment, referral, and follow-up of individuals with protection needs; managing complex protection cases such as victims of trafficking, survivors of gender-based violence, unaccompanied and separated children, and migrants with medical or psychosocial vulnerabilities; and contributing to the development and revision of case management tools, SOPs, and protection guidance materials. The role also involves preparing reports, briefing notes, and technical documents, participating in protection coordination meetings, and promoting adherence to IOM protection principles and data protection requirements. Frequent travel duties are required as part of the position.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Humanitarian Affairs, Political Science, Law, Human Rights, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; OR University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Good experience in Global Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (GAVRR) programmes; Experience in protection programming, humanitarian assistance, migration management, or case management; Experience working with vulnerable populations, including victims of trafficking, migrants at risk, and survivors of violence; Experience coordinating with governmental institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs; Demonstrated experience in report writing, programme monitoring, and capacity-building activities; Experience conducting capacity building on protection mainstreaming principles for various stakeholders; Ability to work under pressure and accurately; Excellent writing skills with the ability to analyse complex problems and identify rapid solutions; Effective resource management skills; Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming. Fluency in English and French is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
