Underwriter - General

CIC Insurance Group, a leading cooperative insurer operating across East and Southern Africa, is seeking a qualified Underwriter - General to join its team in Uganda. The role involves assessing and underwriting general insurance policies, including motor, property, marine, and liability insurance. The Underwriter will evaluate risks, determine policy terms and conditions, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound underwriting decisions. The successful candidate will work closely with the underwriting team, sales agents, and claims department to support business growth while maintaining a balanced risk portfolio. The role may involve occasional travel to assess risks or meet with clients and brokers.

Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; Professional certification in insurance (e.g., CII, ACII, or equivalent) is an advantage; Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in general underwriting within the insurance industry; Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and insurance products; Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite; Excellent communication and negotiation skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Knowledge of Ugandan insurance regulations and compliance requirements; Fluency in English; Additional languages such as Swahili or Luganda are beneficial.
