Job Description
The Marine Spatial Data Analyst will support Blue Ventures' marine conservation and fisheries management initiatives by collecting, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data. Key responsibilities include processing geospatial datasets, developing maps and dashboards for decision-making, and collaborating with field teams to ensure data accuracy. The role involves working with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS), statistical tools, and remote sensing data to assess marine resource use and biodiversity patterns. The analyst will also contribute to reporting on marine spatial planning efforts and support the development of conservation strategies based on spatial data insights.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field; minimum 3 years of experience in GIS and spatial data analysis; proficiency in QGIS, ArcGIS, and R or Python for geospatial analysis; strong understanding of marine ecosystems and conservation principles; experience with remote sensing data (e.g., satellite imagery); excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams; fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Swahili) is an asset.
