Security Officer
Job Description
The Security Officer will contribute to the security and safety of contingency and continuity planning for the office by standardizing and implementing emergency systems for WFP facilities in-country. This role involves liaising with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and in-country security management apparatus to ensure WFP management and staff are fully briefed on security matters. The officer will work with the WFP Field Security Division to provide operational support to Country, Area, and Field Offices for achieving Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Operational Residential Security Standards (MORSS) compliance. Responsibilities include managing facilities, access control measures, security equipment, and budgets to ensure the safety and security of WFP staff and visitors in line with UNSMS best practices. The officer will also collect local security information, prepare reports, provide security orientation briefings to new staff, and support training activities. During emergencies, the officer will assist the supervisor in meeting changing needs. This position requires a high level of integrity, professionalism, and adherence to humanitarian principles.
Requirements
Advanced University degree in Security Management, International Relations, or Law Enforcement OR First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses; At least one (1) year of relevant experience with advanced University Degree OR First University degree with a minimum of three (3) or more years of experience in managing complex security operations, preferably in conflict or post-conflict settings; Proven experience in engaging armed actors, government bodies, and communities to facilitate humanitarian access; Skilled in team management, mentoring junior staff, and supervising contracted services in high-risk settings; Knowledge of UNSMS policies and protocols is a strong asset; Fluency (level C) in English and Somali language; Good theoretical understanding of security management concepts and principles with knowledge of best practices, techniques, and processes; Ability to assimilate a range of information and make basic analyses; Good communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to different situations; Ability to contribute to and/or deliver effective briefing and training; Knowledge of common business principles and processes; Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
