Media Relations Associate (Remote)

This role is responsible for pitching GiveDirectly's programs and research to key media and thought leaders, including journalists, editors, producers, and content creators such as newsletter writers, podcasters, and YouTubers. The position involves cultivating relationships with public intellectuals and other advocates to serve as credible advocates for cash transfers. Responsibilities include lead generation research, writing pitches, prepping spokespeople, and tracking progress over time. The role also involves building and maintaining internal systems, including AI-powered tools and automation, to make the team more efficient. The position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Media and Strategic Communications and spans traditional media pitching, surrogate strategy development, and media research. Strong candidates will demonstrate high accountability to outcomes, attention to detail, narrative strength, and curiosity about emerging media trends and AI capabilities.

2-5 years of experience in media relations, PR, communications, journalism, or related fields; high accountability to outcomes (quantitative and qualitative); ability to deliver high-quality communications products; strong narrative skills to craft compelling stories for journalists and public audiences; curiosity about emerging media trends and AI capabilities; proficiency in using AI and automation tools (e.g., Claude); experience with CRM systems like Salesforce and data tracking tools like Airtable.
