Comms Specialist NGO Job

Job Description

The Communications Specialist will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy for the East Africa Land Border Programme. Key responsibilities include crafting messaging, talking points, and editorial pieces for both internal and external audiences, managing video production, and maintaining the programme’s online presence across multiple platforms (website, blog, Twitter, Facebook). The role involves extensive field travel to gather impact stories, photo, and video content from programme partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders. The Specialist will curate a library of stories, byline articles, and press releases, and work closely with regional and global communications teams to disseminate content through media channels. Additionally, the role requires conceptualizing and executing thought leadership events such as workshops, report launches, and learning events, including budgeting, vendor coordination, and onsite management. The Specialist will also support the Monitoring and Evaluation team in documenting findings and contribute to donor reporting. Safeguarding responsibilities include integrating safeguarding risks and mitigations into all communications activities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within international development, humanitarian, or NGO sectors; Strong writing and editing skills with proven ability to develop compelling narratives, press releases, and editorial content; Experience managing social media platforms and digital content creation; Proven track record in organizing and executing events including workshops and report launches; Experience working with Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks and translating data into engaging communications; Proficiency in video production and multimedia content creation; Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and their application in communications; Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills; Ability to travel to field locations when required; Fluency in English required; Additional language skills (French, Arabic, Swahili) are highly desirable.
