Senior Engineer – Security Operation Center

The Senior SOC Engineer at USIU-Africa is responsible for maintaining the security of the university’s information systems through proactive monitoring, incident detection, analysis, and response. This role involves working in 24/7 rotational shifts to monitor security alerts generated by various security tools, responding promptly to alerts within defined procedural SLAs, and conducting continuous monitoring to detect and mitigate potential threats. The position requires investigating security incidents to determine their source, scope, and impact, developing and implementing incident response plans, and conducting vulnerability and risk assessment exercises to preemptively identify risks. The Senior SOC Engineer will collaborate with other IT Division technical teams to enhance security measures, address potential vulnerabilities, and maintain cybersecurity asset inventories and documentation. Additionally, the role involves supporting the onboarding of log sources into monitoring platforms and the administration of cybersecurity platforms as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security or a related field; minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a full-time information security role; at least two (2) years of experience in a Security Operations Centre (SOC) role; relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CHFI are required; additional certifications (e.g., CISM, LPT, OSCP) are highly desirable; advanced knowledge of IT security monitoring tools including SIEM, SOAR, EDR solutions, and enterprise antivirus systems; strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; experience working in a higher education environment is an added advantage.
