Accountant

The Accountant role involves assisting in examining the correctness of payment requests, verifying the completeness of documentation, and certifying requisitions or transactions for further processing. Key responsibilities include verifying receipts, matching and reconciling invoices with local purchase orders for goods and services procured before effecting payments. The role requires compiling accountability returns, verifying and retiring advance ledgers, and maintaining primary financial records and up-to-date books of accounts. Additionally, the Accountant will prepare periodic reconciliation of financial statements, carry out monthly cash book reconciliations to bank statements, and verify payroll change requests to ensure correctness of computations, payments, and deductions. The position also involves updating functional support to Public Financial Management systems and performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA) are advantageous; minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles; proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite; strong analytical and numerical skills; familiarity with Uganda’s Public Financial Management systems is preferred; must demonstrate integrity, accountability, and transparency.
