Plant Pathology Scientist
Job Description
The Plant Pathology Scientist will plan and conduct plant disease diagnostics, screening, and characterization for target crops. This role involves developing, optimizing, and implementing laboratory protocols for plant pathology applications. The scientist will implement disease resistance efficacy assessments for transgenic and gene-edited crops, ensuring robust methodologies are applied. Responsibilities include conducting field surveys to identify emerging plant diseases, analyzing pathogen samples using advanced techniques, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated disease management strategies. The position requires a strong background in plant pathology, molecular biology, and biotechnology to support Rwanda’s agricultural productivity and food security goals.
Requirements
PhD in Plant Pathology, Plant Science, or a related field; Minimum 5 years of post-doctoral experience in plant pathology research; Experience in molecular plant pathology techniques (PCR, qPCR, ELISA); Proficiency in disease diagnostics and resistance assessment; Knowledge of transgenic and gene-editing technologies; Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; Ability to work in a team and communicate findings effectively; Experience in field trials and data collection; Familiarity with Rwandan agricultural systems and challenges.
