Technical Officer Polio
Job Description
The Technical Officer (TO), Polio will support the implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity in areas related to polio eradication, including surveillance, laboratory strengthening, and case detection. Working under the guidance of the Technical Advisor, the TO will assist in ensuring that STRIDES’ polio activities align with global guidance, national policies, Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) norms, and donor regulations. The role involves providing technical support and advice within defined parameters, maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to capacity strengthening efforts such as mentoring and technical assistance to country-level teams, local partners, and government counterparts. The TO will also support problem-solving for moderately complex issues, compile data for technical leadership, and assist in drafting recommendations for improvements. Additionally, the role includes supporting the implementation of the technical portion of the STRIDES Polio Activity plan at the country level, providing logistical and technical support to field staff, and contributing to planning discussions to strengthen STRIDES operations and implementation. The TO may also provide guidance to junior staff under supervision and assist in compiling donor technical reports and preparing draft presentations and progress updates for STRIDES donors.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, epidemiology, medicine, or related discipline); minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in polio eradication, surveillance, or related public health programs; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; knowledge of Juba Arabic or other local languages is highly desirable; understanding of organizational policies and practices; experience in compiling donor technical reports and preparing presentations; ability to support project management tasks and prioritize activities; general awareness of external factors (political, legal, environmental, financial, social) affecting program implementation.
