Market System Development (MSD) Team Lead

Job Description

The Market System Development (MSD) Team Lead is responsible for the overall management and implementation of LIWAY’s priority sectors, including any upcoming additional funds and corresponding staff in line with the program approach and priorities. The role involves ensuring harmonization between LIWAY’s work and other partners within the program’s overall approach and Mercy Corps Ethiopia’s strategy. Key responsibilities include rolling out technical strategies, providing guidance on program planning and implementation using the Market Systems Development Approach, and ensuring effective implementation of all activities. The Team Lead must proactively address challenges, monitor and analyze the program environment and progress, and use adaptive management strategies and corrective measures as necessary. The position reports to the Deputy Program Manager and involves strategic planning, financial management, compliance with Mercy Corps policies, and donor reporting. Additionally, the Team Lead will engage with a wide range of public and private actors, including businesses, financial service providers, labor associations, training institutions, and relevant city-level bureaus to establish and maintain partnerships.

Requirements

Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Economics, Business Administration, International Development, Social Sciences); minimum of 8 years of progressive professional experience in program management, preferably in international development, market systems development, or related fields; demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing multi-stakeholder partnerships; strong technical expertise in Market Systems Development (MSD) approaches; proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks; experience in financial management, donor reporting, and compliance with organizational policies; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities; proficiency in English (additional local languages are an asset); experience working in Ethiopia or similar contexts is highly desirable.
