WASH Officer NOB (Environment and Climate Action)
Job Description
The WASH Officer (NOB) specializing in Environment and Climate Action will be responsible for leading and coordinating UNICEF's WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs with a strong focus on climate resilience and environmental sustainability. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing climate-adaptive WASH interventions, integrating environmental sustainability into WASH policies and programs, and ensuring alignment with UNICEF's global WASH strategies and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The role involves collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders to enhance climate-resilient WASH infrastructure, conducting needs assessments, and monitoring program performance. Additionally, the officer will provide technical guidance to partners, develop capacity-building initiatives, and advocate for policies that prioritize climate action within the WASH sector. The position requires a deep understanding of climate change impacts on water and sanitation systems and the ability to integrate these considerations into program design and implementation.
Requirements
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Water and Sanitation, Public Health, Environmental Science, or a related field; a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in WASH programming, with at least 3 years in climate-resilient WASH interventions; demonstrated experience in designing and implementing climate-adaptive WASH programs; strong knowledge of environmental sustainability principles and their application in WASH; experience in policy development and advocacy related to WASH and climate change; excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills; proficiency in English (additional UN languages are an asset); familiarity with UNICEF’s WASH strategies and global frameworks; experience working in low- and middle-income countries, preferably in Africa.
