Assistant Manager - Business Development
Job Description
The Assistant Manager, Business Development will play a pivotal role in developing, engaging stakeholders, and rolling out a new domestic card payment scheme for PAPSS (Pan-African Payment and Settlement System). This high-impact position requires cross-functional collaboration to identify and onboard critical partners such as banks, acquirers, PSPs, processors, and merchants. The role involves driving commercial strategy, defining use cases (retail, government payments, toll, fuel, e-commerce), and ensuring ecosystem readiness. The successful candidate will serve as a primary liaison between banks, PSPs, FinTech entities, and government bodies, coordinating workshops, bilateral meetings, and technical onboarding. Additionally, the role includes collaborating with strategy and product teams to define pricing, incentive models, loyalty frameworks, and card product tiers, while aligning commercial readiness with technical rollout timelines. Key deliverables include partner onboarding, transaction volume targets, and activation metrics, with ownership of KPIs to support senior leadership decision-making.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in payments, financial services, or fintech; preferably with exposure to card networks, A2A schemes, or banking/payment partnerships; strong understanding of the acquiring/issuing value chain; experience in stakeholder engagement and ecosystem development; ability to define commercial strategies and pricing models; familiarity with loyalty frameworks, co-badging strategies, and card product tiers; experience working with legal and compliance teams on participation agreements; market insights and competitive benchmarking skills; proficiency in identifying and onboarding key partners (issuers, acquirers, processors, payment gateways, fintech enablers); experience in use case development for retail, government payments, toll, fuel, e-commerce, etc.; strong industry relationships within the payments ecosystem.
