Assistant Financial Accountant
Job Description
The Assistant Financial Accountant will be responsible for accurate recording and management of financial information for all business units, with a primary focus on Suyian Lodge. This role involves maintaining and improving high financial standards and discipline, mentoring and training account clerks, and meeting critical finance deadlines. The position requires managing stock control procedures, assisting with stock counts, and reconciling various accounts including clearing accounts and inter-lodge transactions. The role includes interpreting and analyzing management accounts, participating in monthly finance meetings with the Financial Controller, and ensuring correct authorization and allocation of business expenditure. Additionally, the Assistant Financial Accountant will assist in monitoring controls within the lodges, conducting internal audits, and participating in the development and implementation of financial systems and procedures. The role also involves compiling budgets and quarterly re-forecasts, reviewing and reporting capex spend to budget, and ensuring compliance with group financial policies and procedures. The position requires active involvement in sustainability initiatives, community development projects, and training staff from diverse backgrounds. The role also includes compiling monthly payroll input schedules, approving local orders, ensuring optimal operation of camp IT systems, and coordinating statutory audits such as NEMA, health and safety, fire, and eco-tourism audits.
Requirements
CPA III certification; Bachelor of Commerce degree; Completion of an Excel assessment during the interview process; Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and inventory management; Experience in financial systems, processes, and procedures; Proficiency in Panstrat system; Strong understanding of payroll compliance with employment laws and union agreements; Experience in compiling sustainability statistics and managing financial transactions over accounts payable and receivable; Ability to drive sustainability initiatives and community development projects.
