Human Resource Manager - Media Industry

Job Description

Manage the full recruitment and onboarding process, including job advertising, candidate screening, interviews, reference checks, contract preparation, salary discussions, and confirmation of new employees. The ideal candidate will lead and manage the Human Resources function for an established media organization based in Nairobi, developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and practices that support the organization’s objectives. This hands-on role involves advising the Chief Operations Officer and departmental heads on workforce planning, employee relations, and organizational changes, while ensuring compliance with Kenyan employment laws. Responsibilities include managing employee performance through appraisals, addressing performance gaps, handling grievances and disciplinary matters, identifying training needs, organizing staff development programmes, and supporting succession planning. The role also involves managing employee records, payroll changes, benefits, HR reporting, and ensuring all HR information is accurate, confidential, and up to date.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field; At least 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resource Management, with a minimum of 2 years in an HR supervisory or managerial role; Demonstrated experience managing the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, training, compensation, benefits, and separation; Good working knowledge of Kenyan labour laws, employment regulations, disciplinary procedures, and HR compliance requirements; Experience developing and implementing HR policies, procedures, performance management systems, and employee engagement initiatives; Experience working in a fast-paced organization; Previous experience in the media, broadcasting, communications, creative, or a related industry will be an added advantage; Professional HR certification, such as CHRP, and active membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) will be an added advantage.
