Project Accountant Job

The Project Accountant will oversee all financial aspects of a major K-12 school construction project in Nairobi, reporting to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) with a dotted line to the Project Director. The role involves establishing cost baselines, implementing budget control, and monitoring committed, actual, and forecasted costs to ensure project financial integrity. Responsibilities include forecasting cash flow, managing funding disbursements, tracking expenditures against budgets, and ensuring timely capitalization of completed assets per accounting standards (e.g., IFRS). The role also requires liaising with tax authorities, maintaining an up-to-date register of movable assets, preparing monthly financial reports, and identifying financial risks to propose mitigation strategies. This is a project-based role for 3 to 4 years, working closely with the CFO, Project Director, and Project Commercial Manager.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Professional accounting qualification (CPA-K or equivalent) is required; Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in project accounting or construction finance; Strong proficiency in ERP/FIS systems and Microsoft Excel; Experience with IFRS and Kenyan tax compliance; Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights; Strong communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders; Experience in movable asset tracking and fixed asset register management; Knowledge of donor funding compliance and audit support.
