• Calculate burden, depth, diameter, charge weight and timing sequence. • Choose the right type of explosives and detonators for a specific job. • Prepare cost of material, labour & equipment for blasting operations. • Ensure all work follows explosives/mining regulations. • Obtain license for storage, transport & use of explosives. • Develop blasting plans, warning procedures & emergency response plans. • Oversee drill patterns & hole quality. • Oversee loading of explosives & connection of detonation systems. • Check for misfires, fly rocks & environmental impact. • Monitor ground vibrations & noise impact. • Train drillers, blasters & site crew on explosive handling and safety. • Document results & adjust future blast designs to improve yield & reduce costs. • Grade 12 minimum requirement for all applicants. • Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering. • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in open pit or underground drill and blast operations.
