Regional Advisor for Humanitarian Access & Risk for Africa (F/M) – Nigeria or Ethiopia

Job Description

The Regional Humanitarian Access and Risk Advisor (HARA) will improve analysis, operational management, and access, safety, and security capacity building for Médecins du Monde (MdM) teams across 9 countries in Africa (DRC, CAR, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Sudan). The role involves establishing regular remote relationships with key security managers in these countries, collaborating closely with desk officers, and conducting regular field visits to support humanitarian access and regional analysis. Under the supervision of the Head of Security and Safety Unit (based at HQ), the advisor will monitor and analyze political and security contexts, produce timely alerts and recommendations, maintain security monitoring tools and incident databases, and provide technical guidance to country missions on security risk management and humanitarian access. The role also includes reviewing security aspects of field missions, supporting incident and crisis management, delivering security briefings and training, supervising Country HARAs, and contributing to continuous improvement of security practices through annual action planning.

Requirements

Hold a degree in humanitarian security, security management, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience); solid experience in humanitarian security management, including field missions in high-risk or complex environments; experience working in one or more countries within the region of responsibility; ability to analyze complex political and security contexts, anticipate risks, and provide clear operational recommendations; experience managing security incidents and advising teams in dynamic and challenging environments; experience delivering security training and supporting the development of colleagues’ security capacities; strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders; fluency in both English and French; organizational adaptability and ability to perform under pressure.
