Project Engineer

The Wash Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in target communities. This role involves conducting technical assessments of water sources, designing appropriate WASH infrastructure (e.g., boreholes, latrines, handwashing stations), and ensuring compliance with national and international WASH standards. The engineer will collaborate with local authorities, community leaders, and project teams to identify needs, develop project plans, and oversee construction or rehabilitation activities. Additionally, the role includes training community members on WASH best practices, maintaining project documentation, and reporting progress to donors and stakeholders. The position requires fieldwork in rural and sometimes remote areas, with a focus on sustainable and community-led solutions.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; minimum of 3 years of experience in WASH projects; strong technical knowledge of water supply systems, sanitation technologies, and hygiene promotion; experience in community-based project implementation; proficiency in project management tools and software; excellent communication and training skills; fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; willingness to travel to rural areas; valid driver’s license.
