Wash Engineer
Job Description
World Vision International is seeking a highly skilled WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Engineer to design, implement, and oversee WASH programs in Kigali, Rwanda. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of WASH infrastructure projects, including water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities. Key responsibilities include conducting site assessments, preparing technical designs and specifications, managing contractors and local teams, ensuring compliance with national and international WASH standards, and monitoring project progress to ensure timely and quality delivery. The role involves close collaboration with government agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable and inclusive WASH solutions. Additionally, the WASH Engineer will provide technical support to field teams, conduct training sessions for community members and local staff, and prepare reports for donors and internal stakeholders. The position requires a strong understanding of WASH principles, project management skills, and the ability to work in challenging environments with limited resources.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in WASH program implementation, preferably in a humanitarian or development context; Proven experience in designing and managing water supply, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure projects; Strong knowledge of WASH standards and guidelines (e.g., Sphere Standards, WHO guidelines); Experience with community engagement and participatory approaches; Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, or other relevant software tools; Excellent project management and team leadership skills; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Fluency in English (written and spoken); Proficiency in Kinyarwanda or French is an added advantage; Willingness to travel frequently within Rwanda and occasionally to other regions.
